GMA, Cavite - The local government here has provided financial assistance to 975 jeepney drivers in order to ease their financial burden and ensure their livelihood.
The distribution was led by Cavite 5th District Congressman Roy Loyola, who emphasized the importance of supporting the transportation sector during these challenging times.
The financial assistance is part of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Loyola said his advocacies include providing support to vulnerable sectors, such as jeepney drivers. He highlighted the significance of ensuring their livelihoods and expressed his commitment to continue advocating for their welfare.
“My advocacies include strengthening the transportation sector. They take us to our destinations, becoming part of the daily flow of life. By promoting their sector, we are not only promoting the economy but also the existence of proper and effective public services, the congressman said.
He further emphasized the need for comprehensive programs that address the challenges faced by jeepney drivers, such as financial assistance, skills training, and access to affordable healthcare.
Loyola also stressed the importance of collaboration between government agencies, the private sector, and civil society organizations to create sustainable solutions for the welfare of jeepney drivers.
