BAUAN, Batangas - Groups from the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and PLDT-SMART Communications met with Bauan local government unit (LGU) officials to hand over communication support for the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System Project.

The turnover of communication support for the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System Project aimed to ensure effective communication during emergencies.

Atty. Ava Talag thanked the PDRF and PLDT-SMART Communications on behalf of Mayor Ryanh Dolor for their valuable contributions to the project.

She emphasized the importance of having a dependable communication system in place to effectively respond to earthquakes and tsunamis, ensuring the community's safety and well-being.

She stated that Mayor Dolor was overjoyed that Bauan would assist by issuing warnings to high-risk areas based on vital data gathered by these devices installed in our community.

Rene Meily, President of PDRF, thanked LGU Bauan for supporting the project by allocating locations for the warning devices to be installed during the initial phase of the project.

He also commended PLDT-Smart Communications for providing the mobile data connectivity required for the warning devices to function properly.

In response, Stephanie Orlino, Smart's Assistant Vice President for Stakeholder Management, stated that Smart is willing to assist the LGU and PDRF by providing the connectivity required for data transfer.

She emphasized that their company is also a willing partner, particularly during times of disaster, by providing not only connectivity but also communications assistance for a safe and "SMART" Philippines. On June 7, the PDRF provided an update to the group on the system's initial testing and calibration.

The group also visited the Bauan Evacuation Center in Barangay Manghinao Proper to inspect the early warning devices. (with reports from Bauan MIO)
