TAYABAS CITY - Snakes are an animal that is often misunderstood and feared by many people. However, with proper snake awareness and handling training, individuals can learn to appreciate and safely interact with these fascinating creatures.
On August 10, 2023, the Tayabas City Environment and Natural Resources Office conducted a Snake Awareness and Handling Training in partnership with Wildlife Matters.
Jazz Torres Ong and Kyle Anadeo Tamayo of Wildlife Matters led the training that aims to provide knowledge about correct information for our snakes, such as snake Identification, snake behavior, First aid, and other dos and don'ts to do when encountering a snake.
The training aimed to educate participants about the different species of snakes found in the area, their behavior, and how to identify venomous snakes from non-venomous snakes.
There was also an actual demonstration where the correct snake handle (reticulated python - sawa) was taught.
This training was attended by fifty (50) employees of the local government and private organizations of the area.
Participants were provided with practical knowledge on snake behavior, such as their natural habitats and feeding patterns, to better understand their encounters in the wild.
They were trained on essential first aid techniques in case of a snakebite and educated on the dos and don'ts when encountering a snake to ensure their safety and minimize harm to the reptiles.
