GENERAL LUNA, Quezon - Two municipal mayors from Quezon Province were honored during the Gawad Parangal Awarding Ceremony of the Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines, Inc. (ALSWDOPI) on August 15, 2023, in Lanang, Davao City.
Outstanding Municipal Mayor of the Philippines in the field of Social Service was awarded to Mayor Rachell Ubana of Lopez, Quezon, and Mayor Matt Erwin Florido of General Luna, Quezon.
According to Mayor Florido, it is a great honor that he, a mayor of 4th–6th Class municipality, was recognized for his efforts in social service.
He expressed gratitude to ALSWDOPI for acknowledging the work being done in smaller municipalities like General Luna.
Mayor Ubana also shared her appreciation for the recognition and emphasized the importance of prioritizing social welfare and development in local governance.
She highlighted the challenges faced by smaller municipalities in providing adequate social services and expressed her commitment to continue working towards improving the lives of their constituents.
Both mayors agreed that this recognition serves as motivation to further strengthen their efforts to serve their communities.
Among the city and municipal chief executives who were cited on Tuesday were Mayor Eric Africa of Lipa City; Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas of Talisay City; Mayor Timothy Cayton of Dupax del Norte, Nueva Viscaya; Mayor Lawrence Gorrieta of Pavia, Iloilo; Mayor Jennie Mendez of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; Mayor Vincent Jaen 2nd of Liganes, Iloilo; and Mayor Jose Doromal of Maramag, Bukidnon.
Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Duterte, also attended the event to show her support for the honorees and to underline the importance of their efforts in advancing education and social welfare.
She also praised the work of local governments and national agencies in attaining beneficial outcomes for their areas.
