BALAYAN, Batangas - The new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Don Manuel Lopez Memorial District Hospital (DMLMDH), Balayan, Batangas is set to be “strengthened” with new equipment and machines, with the funding coming from the the provincial government of Batangas.

The inauguration and blessing on September 18, 2023, of the Balayan ICU mark a significant step towards improving healthcare services in the town. The additional equipment and machines will enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide critical care to patients in need.

According to a press release issued by the hospital, the new ICU is temporarily called a closed monitoring unit, pending inspection by the Department of Health. It is expected to be the first ICU to be administered by the Provincial Government of Batangas.

The facility is in response to the increasing medical needs of Batangueños and aims to address the shortage of intensive care units in the area. With the new ICU, patients will have access to advanced medical technology and specialized care, improving their chances of recovery and survival.

Additionally, the facility will help alleviate the burden on other hospitals in the region by providing critical care services closer to home for residents of Batangas.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Rose Ozaeta; DMLMDH Chief of Hospital, Dr. Maureen Villanueva; and Anakalusugan Representative Ray Florence Reyes were present at the inauguration ceremony of the new ICU.

They expressed their gratitude for the establishment of the facility, emphasizing its significance in enhancing healthcare services in Batangas. The collaboration between government officials and medical professionals highlights their commitment to improving the overall well-being of the community.

Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas also commended the efforts put into the construction of the ICU, stating that it is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved.

Governor Mandanas also highlighted the importance of continued investments in healthcare infrastructure to ensure the well-being and safety of the community.

Meanwhile, in the Provincial Health Board meeting, led by Governor Mandanas as chairperson, together with the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Rose Ozaeta, as vice chairperson, the continued promotion of initiatives and programs that aim to provide free medical treatment to Batangueños was discussed.

The board emphasized the need to expand access to healthcare services, particularly in remote areas, and to strengthen partnerships with private healthcare providers.
