MULANAY, Quezon - An evacuation center is a facility that provides temporary shelter and assistance to individuals and families during times of emergencies or disasters. It serves as a safe space where people can seek refuge and receive basic necessities such as food, water, and medical aid.
Hence, residents of the village in Mulanay can now have a reliable and secure place to go in case of calamities or emergencies. This improved evacuation center will not only provide physical protection but also ensure that the needs of the affected individuals are met, promoting their overall well-being and resilience in times of crisis.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DWSD) Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan: Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services Program (Kalahi-CIDSS) has recently turned over a newly constructed and fully equipped evacuation center to Brgy. Bagong Silang in response to the community's vulnerability to natural disasters.
The center, worth P97,389.16, is equipped with medical facilities, a clean water supply, and ample space for temporary shelter, ensuring that the affected individuals receive immediate assistance and support during emergencies.
The inauguration was attended by local government officials led by Mulanay Mayor Aristotle Aguirre, representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and members of the community.
The mayor expressed his gratitude to the DSWD and other partners for their support in establishing the center, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
He also highlighted the center's role in fostering a sense of unity and resilience among residents as they come together to learn and prepare for potential emergencies.
In addition to providing a safe haven during disasters, he said, the facility will be used for community activities and trainings to improve disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
