LOS BAÑOS, Laguna - The #BagongLosBaños Administration, led by Mayor Anthony “Ton” Genuino , is committed to bringing positive change and progress to the municipality. Under his leadership, the administration has implemented various programs and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for the residents of Los Baños.
These include adding more fun to the community through the establishment of recreational facilities and organizing events that promote cultural diversity and unity.
Los Baños, Laguna, is a vibrant and thriving municipality known for its rich natural resources and world-class educational institutions. The Bagong Los Baños Administration recognizes the importance of preserving and harnessing these assets and has implemented sustainable development projects to ensure a greener and more environmentally friendly community.
This year's 22nd Bañamos Hot Spring Baths Festival introduced water activities such as a shower parade and water sports competitions, showcasing the municipality's commitment to promoting tourism and leisure activities centered around its natural springs.
Another water activity was the "Kakaibangka," a one-of-a-kind bamboo rafting experience that allowed visitors to explore the hot springs' crystal-clear waters while admiring the surrounding lush greenery.
The Bañamos Aqua Games, which took place at the picturesque Tadlac Lake, also known as Crocodile Lake, were the third new water activity at the festival. Participants from each barangay competed in a water relay there.
The festival also featured cultural performances and exhibits, highlighting the diverse traditions and heritage of the local community and further emphasizing the town's dedication to celebrating both its cultural diversity and unity.
"Banamos means 'we bathe' or 'take a bath.' It originated from the name of our town, which implies bathing places. We thought of celebrating Bañamos predominantly with water or aqua events. Let's have a parade with showers to drench the people which signals the opening of the Bañamos Festival," the mayor said.
The Franciscan friars have long treasured Makiling's hot springs and steam vents as holy and healing. The name of the festival, Baamos, which means "we bathe" in Spanish, alludes to this heritage.
The event, which began in 2002, is an important instrument for promoting tourism and boosting the regional economy. It is known for its vibrant celebration of history and culture, which includes parades, dances, exhibits, talent competitions, and performances.
The first time the town hosted the annual festival after the pandemic started, it was a huge success, bringing joy and a sense of normalcy to the community. This year, with safety measures in place and more experience in handling such events during these challenging times, the town is optimistic about creating an even better experience for attendees.
The 22nd Baamos Hot Spring Baths Festival was held from September 17 to 24, 2023, coinciding with Los Baos' 408th anniversary.
