STO. TOMAS CITY, Batangas - The City Government of Sto. Tomas led by Mayor Atty. Arth Jhun Aguilar Marasigan has recently implemented various initiatives to promote environmental conservation and sustainability. One of these initiatives is the strict implementation of waste segregation and recycling programs, encouraging residents to properly dispose of their waste and recycle whenever possible.

Prime Gloves Manufacturing Inc. (PGMI) has entered into an ink pact with the City Government of Sto. Tomas to support their environmental conservation efforts. The company has committed to implementing sustainable practices in their manufacturing processes and reducing their plastic bottle waste by implementing a system of reusable containers for their employees.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the collection of donated PET bottles used by the employees of the company has been signed between Prime Gloves Manufacturing Inc. and a local government recycling program.

Under this agreement, the local government will collect and recycle plastic waste from PGMI to help beneficiaries of LGU's programs on solid waste management and environmental sustainability. This collaboration aims to promote a circular economy by diverting plastic waste from landfills and turning it into new products or materials.

The city government has also conducted river clean-up activities to address the issue of plastic waste pollution in waterways in solidarity with the International Coastal Clean-Up Day, aimed at protecting, cleaning, and preserving the city's coastal and marine ecosystems.

Environment and Natural Resources, along with barangay functionaries from Barangays San Miguel, San Vicente, San Pedro, Sta. Maria, San Luis, Sta. Cruz, and Sta Ana, participated in the said activity.

These programs aim to promote sustainable development and conservation of natural resources in the barangays by educating the community about proper waste management and implementing initiatives such as tree planting and coastal clean-ups.

The participation of both government officials and barangay functionaries highlights the importance of collaboration and community involvement in protecting the environment for future generations.

It also fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility among the residents, as they actively participate in activities that directly impact their surroundings. By working together, Sta Cruz and Sta Ana can create a more environmentally conscious community that prioritizes the preservation of natural resources.
