TAYTAY, Rizal - "Tiangges” or flea markets, and other seasonal markets should be given support to assure their success and sustainability, according to the Taytay Councilor John Tobit Cruz.
With this, a resolution was passed by the local council and introduced by Cruz, urging the local chief executive, Taytay Mayor Allan Martine De Leon, MPA, to issue an executive order appointing the members of the Taytay Garments Council and to convene as soon as possible.
The resolution is to establish a dedicated council that will oversee the development and management of these markets, ensuring that they are properly regulated and maintained.
In a Facebook post, Cruz also stressed that the resolution aims to address the challenges faced by the garment industry, such as lack of access to financing and limited market opportunities.
The Garments Council will work towards finding solutions to these issues by partnering with financial institutions and exploring new markets for local garments.
It will also work towards implementing sustainable practices in the garment industry, promoting ethical production, and reducing environmental impact.
Cruz also believes it will foster entrepreneurship, boost the local economy, and create job opportunities for the community.
He said the Garments Council was formed through an ordinance passed by the local government in 2021 but is still in its early stages of development.
Cruz envisions that the Garments Council will collaborate with local designers and manufacturers to enhance the quality and competitiveness of their products.
He hopes that the council will provide resources and support to aspiring entrepreneurs in the garment industry, encouraging innovation and growth.
