TIAONG, Quezon - In a message marking World Tourism Day 2023 on September 28 at the Convention Center in Tiaong, Quezon, themed “Tourism and Green Investment”, Provincial Tourism Officer Nesler Louies Almagro expressed his hope for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to tourism in Quezon.

He emphasized the importance of promoting responsible travel practices and preserving the natural beauty of the province's tourist destinations to ensure their long-term viability.

Almagro also highlighted the need for collaboration between the government, local communities, and tourism stakeholders to implement eco-friendly initiatives such as waste management systems and renewable energy sources.

During the program, a discussion was held to explore strategies and initiatives that can be implemented to promote sustainable tourism in Quezon Province.

Some of the suggestions included promoting community-based tourism, supporting local artisans and businesses, and educating tourists about the importance of respecting the environment and local culture.

Additionally, it was emphasized that sustainable tourism practices can not only benefit the province's natural resources but also contribute to the economic growth and well-being of its residents.

Sangguniang Bayan Tourism Chairpersons, Municipal Tourism Officers, and the students from Lusacan National High School and Lyceum de San Pablo who are taking the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) course shared their ideas on developing eco-friendly accommodations, implementing waste management systems, and creating educational programs for tourists on environmental conservation.

The Department of Tourism IV-A, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), LGUs, and other government agencies to further develop tourism in the province of Quezon have also expressed their support for these initiatives.

They believe that conservation efforts can greatly contribute to the sustainable development of the province and its tourism industry.

Furthermore, Department of Tourism CALABARZON Regional Director Marites Castro, 2nd District Board Member Bong Talabong, Tiaong Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea, and Dolores Mayor Orlan Calayag participated in the program by attending the project launch and sharing their insights on the potential impact of these initiatives on the local economy and environment.

Meanwhile, a public hearing was also held regarding the Quezon Province Culture, Arts, and Tourism Code of 2023, led by Chairperson Committee on Tourism Board Member John Joseph Aquivido together with Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Jette Salvacion and Atty. Angelica Naca.

The public hearing aimed to gather feedback and suggestions from various stakeholders, including local residents, business owners, and tourism industry representatives.

The committee members emphasized the importance of striking a balance between promoting tourism and preserving the cultural heritage and natural resources of Quezon Province.
