BORDEOS, Quezon - The candidates for the barangay and SK elections here came together recently to join in the unity walk and peace covenant signing.

Leading the events are representatives from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Burdeos, Burdeos Municipal Police Station, BFP, Philippine Coast Guard, and the local government of Burdeos, Quezon, under the leadership of Mayor Freddie Aman and Vice Mayor Gina Pera Gonzales.

The activity started with a unity walk attended by 454 candidates from 13 barangays, symbolizing their commitment to work together for the betterment of their community.

The peace covenant signing followed, where each candidate pledged to uphold the principles of fair and honest elections as well as promote unity and harmony among themselves and their constituents.

Unity Walk, Interfaith Rally, and Peace Covenant for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) were organized by the local government in order to foster a sense of camaraderie and cooperation among the candidates.

The event aimed to emphasize the importance of a peaceful and united community, encouraging the candidates to prioritize the welfare of their constituents above personal interests during their campaign and future governance.

According to the Vice Mayor, whatever the result of the election may be, it is crucial for all candidates to maintain a spirit of unity and respect for one another.

Gonzales also emphasized the need for peaceful dialogue and collaboration among the candidates, as this will ultimately lead to more harmonious and effective governance for the community.

The COMELEC also encourages candidates to adhere to ethical campaign practices and promote transparency in their financial activities, they must follow the “lawful election propaganda” guidelines set by the COMELEC.

This includes proper disclosure of campaign expenses and sources of funding to ensure a fair and accountable electoral process. By doing so, candidates can foster trust and confidence among voters, promoting a healthy democratic system.

They also added that candidates should refrain from engaging in any form of vote-buying or other illegal activities that may compromise the integrity of the elections.

This not only upholds the principles of fair competition but also protects the rights and choices of voters , allowing them to make informed decisions based on the merits and policies of the candidates.

Additionally, enforcing strict penalties for those found guilty of electoral misconduct can serve as a deterrent and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
