CATANAUAN, Quezon - Catanuan is a small coastal town known for its vibrant fishing community. The abundant marine resources and favorable fishing conditions in Catanuan attract fishermen from all over the region, seeking to make a living from the bountiful waters of this picturesque coastal town.
As a result, the local government recognizes the importance of preserving the fishing sector and is putting new regulations in place to promote sustainable fishing practices. It means that, according to a new government initiative, Catanuan fishermen would have a better right to defend their livelihoods and sustain their fishing practices.
In the virtual session of the 66th regular meeting of the Quezon Provincial Council, held on Monday, October 16, 2023 other ordinances, resolutions, executive orders, and proposals from the Provincial Government that will provide orders and benefits for every citizen were approved.
One of these was the Catanauan town ordinance, which was approved by the local government council and will make changes and additions to town policy that will benefit fishermen in the area.
The new ordinance aims to address the specific needs and challenges faced by the fishermen in Catanauan, such as improving their access to resources, providing financial assistance for equipment upgrades, and implementing stricter regulations to protect marine life.
These changes are expected to have a positive impact on the livelihoods of the fishermen and contribute to the sustainable development of the town's fishing industry.
These include addressing the specific needs of fishermen in a new policy that will not only improve their economic well-being but also promote a more environmentally conscious approach to fishing practices.
In other environmental matters, Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan was authorized to enter into and sign an agreement between the Provincial Government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR) Region IV-A Calabarzon, Department of Public Works, and Highways Quezon regarding the formation of the Lagnas River Watershed Management Council and the Macalelon River Watershed Management Council.

Governor Tan also pledged to allocate funds for the implementation of projects aimed at improving water quality and preserving biodiversity within these watersheds.
The council simply requests that the meeting provide adequate representation and provide references to relevant news on future events in the formation of these councils to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the decision-making process.
