DOLORES, Quezon - The coffee growers in Calabarzon have recognized the need for a unified voice and platform to address their common challenges and goals. With this in mind, they have come together to discuss the establishment of a federation that will serve as a collective representation for all coffee growers in the region.

Every association of coffee growers in here gathered on October 20, 2023, at Lukong Valley Farm in Brgy. Pinagdanlayan, Dolores, and Quezon to discuss the formation of the federation. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration and cooperation among the different associations, ensuring that all voices are heard and represented in the decision-making process.

According to the public information office of Quezon, its goal is to create a legitimate federation that will promote policies and projects that will help expand and develop the coffee industry throughout the region.. The federation will serve as a platform for sharing best practices, pooling resources, and advocating for the interests of coffee farmers in Quezon.

The current problem in the coffee industry was presented during the workshop, which will be the basis for what is to be done and the necessary activities to achieve its goals. The workshop also provided an opportunity for participants to brainstorm innovative solutions and strategies to address the challenges faced by the coffee industry.

This includes training on post-harvest processing and some other best practices, marketing of harvested coffee to local coffee shops, incentives for coffee growers, and methods for managing pests and diseases in the plantation.

In addition, the federation is exploring partnerships with local universities and research institutions to develop new technologies and techniques for improving coffee cultivation. They are also working on establishing a certification program to ensure that coffee from Quezon meets high quality standards, which will further enhance its marketability both locally and internationally.

Right now, the federation, under the guidance of a new set of officials led by Thdyrranno Exconde will begin to develop its bylaws and register with the Security and Exchange Commission in collaboration with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and the Department of Agriculture of CALABARZON.
