"Kung sino man kumokontra sa confidential funds ay kumokontra sa kapayapaan. Kung sino man ang kumokontra sa kapayapaan ay kalaban ng bayan"—Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte

This is what the vice president emphasized in her speech during PRO13's 122nd Police Service Anniversary Celebration on October 4, 2023, defending the use of confidential funds as crucial for maintaining peace and order in the country.

A claim that one opposition lawmaker sees as her attempt to gaslight the public and divert attention from the potential misuse of these funds. The lawmaker argues that transparency and accountability should be prioritized over maintaining peace, as they are essential for a functioning democracy.

As per the narrative, the opposition lawmaker believes that the lack of transparency regarding the use of confidential funds could lead to corruption and abuse of power within the government. They emphasize the importance of holding public officials accountable and ensuring that taxpayer money is used responsibly for the benefit of society.

It is unclear how many times these government critics have been labeled as enemies of the people. From the president to the local authorities, there seems to be a concerted effort to discredit and silence those who question the government's actions.

This stifling of dissent not only undermines the principles of democracy but also hinders the progress and development of the nation. It is imperative that citizens are allowed to freely express their opinions without fear of reprisal in order to foster a healthy and inclusive democratic society.

If the funds are for good use, why are they confidential and hidden from public scrutiny? Transparency and accountability are essential to ensuring that public funds are being used effectively and for the benefit of citizens. Without this transparency, there is a lack of trust in the government's actions, further fueling skepticism and dissent among the population.

When citizens see public funds being kept secret, it raises concerns about corruption and favoritism. Operating in secrecy, these funds undermine the principles of good governance and hinder efforts towards peacebuilding and stability.

An individual being labeled as an enemy for questioning the lack of transparency and demanding accountability is not the enemy of the country but rather a defender of democracy and integrity.

In fact, holding government officials accountable for their actions is crucial for fostering trust between the government and its citizens and ultimately strengthening the foundations of a just and equitable society.

Criticism of confidential funds is not necessarily an attack on the government but rather a call for greater openness and integrity in financial matters.

Scrutiny can help prevent corruption and ensure that taxpayer money is being used for the benefit of the people rather than for personal gain.

This statement of the Vice President, seems to be already a sign of warning that any criticism or questioning of confidential funds will be met with hostility.

Making statements like these can create a culture of fear and discourage individuals from speaking out against the potential misuse of taxpayer money.

First of all, an anti-terror law is already in place for critics who might attack the government, so there is no need for additional measures that could potentially stifle dissent and limit freedom of speech.

Secondly, it is important to foster an environment where constructive criticism and different perspectives are welcomed, as this can lead to better decision-making and the identification of potential flaws or risks in financial practices.

Does the government want us all to just approve and not question their actions? This goes against the principles of democracy and transparency, as it is crucial for citizens to have the right to question and hold their government accountable.

This era is worse than martial law because it suppresses freedom of speech and stifles dissenting voices. These government officials are mind-conditioning the public into blindly accepting their decisions without any critical analysis by discouraging them from questioning them.

The future of the Philippine government with these kinds of leaders looks bleak, as it jeopardizes the principles of transparency and accountability. Without a strong opposition and a vibrant exchange of ideas, the country may struggle to address pressing issues and effectively serve its citizens.

Please remind these government officials that they were elected by the people and are paid for it, and it is their responsibility to prioritize their own well-being while working for the good of society.

Ignoring the public's demands and concerns will only lead to more disappointment and a loss of trust in the government. It is crucial for leaders to listen to the views of the people, engage in meaningful discourse, and take the required actions to ensure that all residents have a prosperous future.

And for the people, it is important to actively participate in the democratic process by staying informed, voicing your opinions, and holding officials accountable for their actions. Remember that your vote and your voice have the power to shape the direction of the government and, ultimately, the well-being of society.
