GENERAL NAKAR, Quezon - Quezon Gov. Angelina Helen Tan personally visited Genera Nakar on Friday, October 27, 2023, to assess the situation following the catastrophic landslide. She spent time interacting with the affected families, listening to their stories and concerns.

The governor also ensured that the necessary aid and support were provided to help them recover from this tragedy. She recognized the importance of addressing the immediate needs of the affected families, such as providing food, water, and temporary shelter.



Tan emphasized the significance of long-term solutions to prevent similar disasters in the future, promising to allocate resources for infrastructure development and implement measures to mitigate the risk of landslides in Genera Nakar.

Her visit not only showed her commitment to the welfare of her constituents but also provided comfort and reassurance to the affected families during this difficult time. She also expressed her gratitude to the rescue teams and volunteers who had worked tirelessly to assist those in need.



On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, four individuals, including a pregnant woman, were killed in a landslide in Sitio Angelo, Brgy. Umiray in General Nakar, Quezon Province.

The landslide was triggered by heavy rains brought to the Sierra Madre mountain range, near the boundaries of General Nakar in Quezon, Doña Aurora Trinidad in Bulacan, and Aurora province, causing massive destruction to the community.

According to the General Nakar local government On October 25, a team from the Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion went to the landslide site and found several houses buried under the debris.

The team immediately initiated search and rescue operations and found the bodies of five victims, with four of them being identified. Two of the victims are a couple from the town, while the other two, including the pregnant woman, were from Tanay, Rizal.

Joint forces of the Philippine Army, the Philippine Air Force, and local responders retrieved the victims' remains. The local government has provided maximum help to the grieving relatives of the deaths, including a P30,000 cash aid, a scholarship program, and other types of assistance.

The fatalities were inside their homes when the avalanche occurred, according to the Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry Division. Responders stated that the adverse weather conditions and location forced them to employ choppers to collect the victims.
