GUMACA, Quezon - Gumaca Mayor Webster Letargo, in a Facebook post, happily announced recently that he has been selected to represent the Philippines in the upcoming China-ASEAN Mayors Forum. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to engage with fellow mayors from different countries and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and foster economic development within the region.

The China-ASEAN Mayors Forum is said to be a high-level forum event approved by China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region that is integrated into the framework of the China-ASEAN Expo.

The China-ASEAN Mayors Forum has successfully held six (6) sessions, which were postponed from 2020 to 2021 owing to the pandemic, according to the China-ASEAN Expo from 2015 to 2022. More than 200 Chinese and foreign cities are involved, together with participants from more than 20 Chinese provinces, autonomous areas, and municipalities, as well as nine (9) ASEAN nations. It has steadily grown in power in a variety of sectors, including politics, economics, culture, and other areas.

It has played an active role in establishing connections, promoting exchanges, deepening understanding, and enhancing trust, particularly in the areas of servicing the high-quality construction of the "Belt and Road" and constructing the China-ASEAN Community with a shared future.

Guilin City will host the 2023 China-ASEAN Mayors Forum from November 19 to 21. This forum will center on President Xi Jinping's major initiatives, such as "Building the Five Gardens" and "Global Development." The main theme is "Building Our Homes Together, Promoting Prosperity Together, Assisting in the Construction of a Closer China-ASEAN Community with High-level Urban Cooperation."

The forum will allow exchanges and discussions among mayors, experts, and scholars, as well as mayors and entrepreneurs, across numerous channels, levels, and areas. The discussions will involve sharing experiences, discussing development, and making future plans, strengthening cooperation between China and ASEAN in a variety of areas such as urban-rural coordinated development, culture, tourism, trade, technology, and more.

During the forum, they will conduct economic and trade cooperation meetings with mayors of significant Chinese cities and entrepreneurs in linked industries. They will also provide on-site display and promotional services for cultural tourism and specialized products from the Municipality of Gumaca through graphic and video exhibitions, among other things.

The mayor of Gumaca is looking forward and hopes that this forum will help foster stronger economic ties between Gumaca and Chinese cities, leading to increased trade and investment opportunities. He also hopes that through cultural exchange and collaboration, both sides can learn from each other's experiences and further enhance their respective development strategies.
