GUMACA, Quezon - The local government of Gumaca town is taking steps to strengthen its nutrition program in order to improve the health and well-being of its residents, particularly children aged five years and below.
The first part of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) Technical Review was recently conducted in the Conference Room of the Municipal Hall with the aim of assessing the current state of the nutrition program and identifying areas for improvement.
The MNC is composed of representatives from Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan—Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), one of the poverty alleviation programs of the Philippine Government being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The Technical Review in the Municipal Hall allowed the MNC to gather valuable insights and data to further enhance the nutrition program and ensure its effectiveness in addressing the needs of the community.
Gumaca Mayor Webster Letargo expressed support and gratitude for the dedication and hard work of the barangay officials, barangay nutrition scholars, barangay health workers, and child development workers and KALAHI-CIDSS coordinators recognized their efforts in implementing the nutrition program.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnership between the local government and various stakeholders to achieve sustainable development and improve the overall well-being of the community.
He also said these projects are related to the development of the health and nutrition of its residents, as they focus on the promotion of proper nutrition and the overall well-being of children and families.
By investing in these projects, the community can create a healthier and more prosperous future for its residents by addressing malnutrition, improving access to healthcare services, and empowering individuals to make informed health choices.
During the MNC technical review, ten barangays in the town presented their proposed projects to organize child development centers that would provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and grow, offering educational programs, nutritious meals, and healthcare services to ensure that every child in the community has equal opportunities for healthy development and a bright future in their barangays.
Also included in the facilities that they want to build are the handwashing station, waiting area, improvement of ventilation, and kitchen area, which will greatly help to make the daycare centers pleasant and make the place suitable for learning and healthy for the minds and bodies of young students.
In the following days, October 13 and October 20, this activity will be continued in compliance with the proper process of carrying out the aforementioned project gifted to us by the Kalahi-CIDSS PMNP (Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project) and the collaboration of the Department of Health and Department of Social Welfare and Development.
