Is the MTRCB's decision on "It's Showtime" involving icing just or not?

The issue between The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), which has summoned the producers of the noontime variety show It's Showtime to address complaints surrounding a particular segment that aired on July 25, 2023, never fails to generate controversy and debate among the public.

The "Isip Bata" segment, featuring hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez, came under scrutiny due to scenes that some viewers considered to be portraying alleged indecent acts. As a result, the MTRCB invoked Section 3(c) of Presidential Decree No. 1986, which deals with the prohibition of indecent and immoral content on television.

It's Showtime' has been suspended for 12 days, despite sending a motion for reconsideration, and the Kapamilya Network has announced that it will no longer appeal the decision to the Office of the President and will begin suspending the noontime show on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

In a statement issued on October 6, 2023, ABS-CBN stated that they respect the MTRCB's decision and have decided not to escalate the case to the President's office.

They also thank everyone who loves, supports, and watches their program for their unwavering support throughout the years. ABS-CBN remains committed to providing quality entertainment and will continue to explore new opportunities to connect with their audience.

ABS-CBN will temporarily replace the suspended program with its new game show variety show t's Your Lucky Day after deciding not to appeal to the MTRCB office. While they try to address the problems pertaining to their suspended program, ABS-CBN is hopeful that their audience will enjoy and be excited by this new show.

It's Your Lucky Day will be hosted by Luis Manzano and include Robi Domingo, Jennica Garcia, and Melai Cantiveros as co-hosts, according to an announcement made by ABS-CBN on Wednesday, October 11. It's Your Lucky Day is scheduled to feature more special co-hosts and guests.

Despite the challenges, ABS-CBN remains optimistic about It's Your Lucky Day and looks forward to delivering quality entertainment to its audience.

Many viewers expressed their thoughts on the issue through social media platforms, with some showing support for It's Showtime even though it will not air on its regular programming slot.

Others expressed disappointment and frustration, hoping for a resolution that would allow It's Showtime to continue airing as usual. Nonetheless, ABS-CBN assured its viewers that It's Your Lucky Day will still provide a captivating and enjoyable viewing experience.

Others voiced their disappointment over the MTCRB's decision, questioning the fairness of the ruling and expressing concern about the impact it may have on the network and its employees, saying that their decision is wrong.

Some viewers also raised concerns about the potential loss of job opportunities for the show's production staff and crew.

It's Showtime, and like other variety shows, sometimes the audience sees double meanings or hidden messages, but it is ultimately up to the viewers to interpret them.

It's the viewers, who were adults, who put forward the criticism and concerns about the show's content. They argue that it may not be suitable for younger audiences due to its suggestive nature. However, supporters of the show argue that it is a form of artistic expression and should be appreciated for its creativity and entertainment value.

Hidden messages, ill and malicious, have always been all over the internet, and unfortunately, it is no different for this show. It depends on the parents, they said, to monitor and regulate what their children watch and ensure that they are exposed to age-appropriate content.

Whether It's Showtime intends to show malicious messages or not on their 'Isip Bata" segment, it is important for parents to stay vigilant and actively engage with their children about the content they consume.

Fostering open communication and teaching critical thinking skills, parents can help their children navigate the digital landscape responsibly.

Values are formed through adult role models, so it is crucial for not just parents but also other adults in a child's life, such as teachers and family members, to model good behavior and reinforce positive values, especially public figures and media influencers.

Adults may motivate children to make educated decisions and build a strong moral compass by setting a good example and advocating ethical behavior.

Blaming the internet and technology for negative behavior is not productive. Instead, it is important for adults to educate themselves about the digital world and actively engage with children in conversations about responsible online behavior.

Adults should take the initiative to educate themselves about the potential risks and benefits of the digital world, so they can guide children in making informed decisions.

Being busy with their work and personal responsibilities should not be an excuse for adults to neglect their role in teaching children about ethical behavior online.

It is crucial for adults to prioritize and allocate time to have open and honest discussions with children, emphasizing the importance of empathy, respect, and responsible use of technology.
