PAKIL, Laguna - The local government here led by Mayor Vincent Soriano approved on OCtober 2, 2023 an ordinance for senior citizens' pensions to receive a monthly stipend of 500 pesos.
The Municipal Ordinance No. 2023-0187 aims to provide financial assistance to senior citizens in need and help improve their quality of life by ensuring that they have a stable source of income.
Mayor Soriano pointed out on Facebook that this pension is not included in the National Social Pension Program, which includes pensions for our elderly citizens with GSIS and SSS and retired uniformed personnel such as members of the military and police who are already senior citizens.
He said this universal coverage is crucial in ensuring that all senior citizens are provided with financial support during their retirement years and is soon to be implemented in the town to ensure that no senior citizen is left without a pension.
The mayor also emphasized the importance of this program in promoting the well-being and dignity of our elderly population, as they have contributed significantly to our society throughout their lives.
He further stated that, in response to the terms of RA 9994, people receiving social pensions from the DSWD but who are GSIS, SSS, and MUP retirees will be freed from the local social pension program next year.
He said he will assign them to the open positions for the rest of our senior residents who have yet to get social pensions, ensuring that everyone who is eligible for social pensions will receive them.
This move aims to streamline the distribution process and prioritize those who have not yet benefited from the program.
The Local Social Pension Program will start based on the said Ordinance in January of the year 2024 and has an initial target of 100 Senior Citizens.
