In his remarks at the event, DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual urged local governments to play a critical role in boosting the country's economic competitiveness by enacting business-friendly policies and providing necessary assistance to local businesses.

He emphasized the importance of local governments in providing crucial services to citizens and encouraging economic development, adding that their actions may help to create jobs, reduce poverty, and improve the general quality of life for their constituents.

Secretary Pascual also urged local governments to work together to share plans and objectives in order to maximize their effect and achieve sustainable development.

"Together, let us traverse this exciting journey towards the Philippines, imbued with creativity, competitiveness, and resilience. Let us weave our dreams and efforts into a tapestry of shared visions and aspirations," Pascual said.

The Competitiveness Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry oversees the yearly Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Program, which ranks Philippine cities and municipalities. The National Competitiveness Council created it in partnership with the Regional Competitiveness Committees, with support from the US Agency for International Development.
