TIAONG, Quezon - Young adults here come together to celebrate and show their support for the elderly community by participating in various activities and programs organized by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs during the annual Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino (Elderly Filipino Week).

This celebration, which aims to promote intergenerational bonding and highlight the importance of honoring and caring for our senior citizens, was held on October 20, 2023, with the local government of Tiaong City led by Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea taking the lead in organizing the event.

The activities included health and wellness seminars, cultural performances, and a community outreach program where young adults volunteered to assist the elderly in their daily tasks and provide companionship.

It was attended by about 500 people from various barangays covered by the town and neighboring areas. Local businesses and organizations also participated by offering discounts and special services to senior citizens during the event, further emphasizing the importance of honoring and valuing our elderly population.

The newly renovated air-conditioned town plaza is one of the priority projects of Tiaong LGU and aims to provide a comfortable and accessible space for the community to gather and engage in recreational activities. The renovation includes the installation of modern amenities such as benches, lighting, and a stage for performances, making it an ideal venue for events like the senior citizen appreciation day.

Mayor Mea has emphasized the significance of creating an inclusive and age-friendly community where the elderly are respected and their contributions are recognized. He believes that the senior citizen appreciation day held at the renovated park will not only provide entertainment and enjoyment for the elderly but also serve as a platform to honor their achievements and celebrate their valuable role in society.

The town plaza's renovation also demonstrates the commitment of Tiaong LGU towards improving the overall quality of life for all residents, including our beloved elderly population. This investment in an age-friendly community fosters a sense of belonging and promotes social interaction among all generations in the town.
