BIÑAN CITY, Laguna - One of the problems after elections is the garbage that is left behind by campaign materials and political posters. This not only creates an eyesore in the community, but also poses a threat to the environment.

It is crucial for authorities to implement effective waste management strategies to promptly address this issue and ensure a clean and sustainable post-election period, and the Biñan City local government has taken steps to tackle this problem.

They have recently introduced a campaign encouraging candidates and their teams to properly dispose of campaign materials after the elections. It is a new program called "Lumang Tarpaulin, Palitan Natin!" (Trapalit) Project, which aims to promote recycling and reduce waste in the city after Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

This is also to reduce the amount of tarpaulin waste that ends up in landfills and contributes to environmental pollution. It also aims to educate the community about the importance of recycling and sustainable practices for a greener and cleaner city.

Biñan City hopes to create a more environmentally conscious community and reduce the impact of election-related waste on the city's ecosystem. They also encourage residents to participate in the recycling efforts by collecting used campaign materials and bringing them to designated drop-off points.

The local government has partnered with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the City Agriculture Office to ensure that the collected materials are properly processed and turned into ECO bricks or ECO hollow blocks.

Tarpaulin is said to be one of the ingredients in making ECO bricks or ECO hollow blocks and is also used as a container for seedlings and crops during the planting season. This innovative approach not only promotes recycling but also supports sustainable agriculture practices in the community.
