ANGONO, Rizal - The recent debut of the month-long Higantes Festival in New Angono promises to be a vibrant celebration of culture and tradition. This highly anticipated event showcases the town's rich history through colorful parades, lively street performances, and the iconic giant paper mache figures that have become synonymous with the festival.
With this year's theme, lisang Layunin, isang Pangarap, and Lipad Bayan rig Angono, the official launch of the Higantes Festival marks a significant milestone for the town. The festival aims to not only promote local artistry and craftsmanship but also foster a sense of unity and pride among the residents of New Angono.
The festival began with its annual Gabi ng Tagim Halloween Costume Contest to showcase local creativity; the Higantes Festival Poetry Writing Contest to delve into each student's potential literary ability; and multiple displays showcasing artwork that has been a part of local heritage and culture.
A serenata concert presented the town's musical vibrancy. These events provide a forum for our local performers to express their unwavering passion for the performing arts and music.
With the establishment of the Pasalubong Center on November 6, 2023, at the Tourism Office, the local government of Angono has marketed goods that can only be obtained in the town. The "fried itik" cooking contest, which took place on November 8, 2023, in Plaza Rizal, is a popular event with a unique delicacy that is an inspiration to cater to.
People waited and cheered in the Higantes Festival Grand Parade to see these massive paper mache dances in Angono's streets. The event is a way for the local government to express gratitude for all of the blessings it receives during the year. Every November 22-23, the fluvial procession of St. Clement is held.
