BATANGAS CITY - The students from Paharang Integrated School showcased their exceptional talent and skills at the World Robot Games, emerging as the winners in their respective categories. The victory not only brought pride to the school but also highlighted the importance of education in nurturing young minds for future technological advancements.
Aron Moises Ronquillo and Jhomil Claveria, both grade 12 students at Paharang Integrated School, won a silver medal in the recent World Robot Games held in Taiwan, where they competed against representatives from Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia in the robotics competition.
They invented a wheelchair prototype out of scrap materials such as plywood and PVC and said it was for their disabled classmate. The prototype was designed to provide better mobility and independence for individuals with disabilities, showcasing the students' innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
The prototype wheelchair has conventional designs such as a convertible bed, medical kit, and pulse rate sensor and can be controlled using a remote. The students also incorporated advanced features like obstacle detection and avoidance systems, making the wheelchair safer and more user-friendly.
With their impressive creation, the organizer hopes to inspire other students to pursue careers in engineering and design, as well as raise awareness about the importance of accessibility and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. The prototype wheelchair has the potential to greatly improve the quality of life for those with mobility limitations, allowing them to navigate their surroundings with greater ease and independence.
According to their coach, Rosalie Ronquillo, they want to help the physically challenged students so that their disability does not hinder their desire to study and pursue their educational goals. This initiative also seeks to promote a more inclusive society by challenging societal barriers and promoting empathy and understanding towards individuals with disabilities.
Mena de Torres, the principal of the aforementioned school, is pleased with their students achievements and believes it demonstrates the school's commitment to establishing a supportive and inclusivee environment. She hopes that this recognition will inspire other students to become advocates for inclusivity and empower individuals with disabilities to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
Paharang Integrated School believes that their pupils' invention will be recognized and supported by the local community and government since it demonstrates the potential of young minds and their ability to contribute to society. The school also believes that this recognition will encourage more students to pursue their passion for innovation and problem-solving, ultimately leading to a brighter future for their community.
