DOLORES, Quezon - The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Quezon seeks to address the issue of security of tenure for Barangay Health Workers (BHW) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in Dolores, Quezon, through the second reading of a proposed ordinance.
In their recent 72nd session on November 28, 2023, they conducted the second reading on a proposed measure that aims to provide long-term employment stability for these important community workers.
The SP recognizes the invaluable contributions of BHWs and BNSs in promoting health and nutrition within the community and aims to provide them with the necessary job security to continue their vital work effectively.
During the second reading, the majority of SP members approved the ordinance, signaling their commitment to ensuring the rights and welfare of BHWs and BNSs by protecting their job security. According to the regulation, anytime there is a change in the chief village or barangay captain, the decision to change or remove BHW and BNS must first go through the local health board.
This process ensures that any decision about BHWs and BNSs is made in dialogue with local health authorities, who are knowledgeable about the community's healthcare requirements. To further ensure BHWs and BNSs have job security, this ordinance further requires that any changes or removals be based on valid and justifiable reasons.
The session also approved letters authorizing Quezon Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan to enter into agreements related to the improvement of services delivered to the provinces.
These services may include healthcare infrastructure development, training programs for healthcare professionals, and collaborations with other government agencies to enhance the overall healthcare system in the provinces.
Meanwhile, ordinances related to the budget, sports, transportation, education, and others were also approved to address the needs and priorities of the province, such as funding for sports facilities, improving transportation infrastructure, enhancing educational opportunities, and supporting various community initiatives.
