TAYTAY, Rizal - The ordinance that aims to urge trike drivers in Taytay City to offer discounted fares has been successfully passed by the City Council on November 20, 2023. The ordinance is part of the city's efforts to promote affordability and accessibility for commuters, especially those who heavily rely on tricycles as their primary mode of transportation.
National Law has declared fare discounts to students, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens, and this local ordinance is to remind trike drivers in Taytay City to comply with these national regulations and extend the appropriate fare discounts to eligible passengers.
Taytay Councilor John Tobit Cruz, who authored and sponsored the local ordinance stated that it is crucial for trike drivers to be aware of and follow these fare discount regulations and the ordinance to ensure that all eligible passengers can benefit from the reduced fares.
20 percent discount under the law is mandated for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students. This initiative aims to promote accessibility and affordability, making transportation more accessible for vulnerable groups in the community.
Those who do not follow the guidelines will face fines or other disciplinary sanctions. Authorities can ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive the required support and assistance by enforcing these restrictions.
