UP Diliman archi students exploring Gumaca, Quezon during their study tour on November 18 and 19, 2023, gaining valuable insights into the practical aspects of architecture.

GUMACA, Quezon - Architecture students embarked on a journey that transcended textbooks and lecture rooms on November 18 and 19, 2023, in conjunction with the University of the Philippines (UP). They were given the opportunity to explore Gumaca, Quezon, and apply their studies in a real-world setting.

Gumaca is a town known for its rich cultural heritage and architectural wonders. This study tour allowed UP Diliman architecture students to witness firsthand the challenges and intricacies of designing structures that harmonize with the local environment and reflect the community's identity.

The local government of Gumaca welcomed the students with open arms, providing them with the necessary resources and guidance to fully experience the town's cultural heritage. They were able to engage with local artisans, architects, and community leaders, gaining valuable insights into the importance of preserving and promoting the town's unique identity.

As part of their field observation, key person interviews, and photo recording, they visited Gumaca Municipal Hall, San Diego de Alcala Parish Cathedral, San Diego de Alcala Fortress, Gumaca Civic Center, and Gumaca Convention Center. They also did on-site research, surveys, interviews with citizens and community leaders, and historical record and map analysis. All of their acquired data will be kept confidential and used just for their research.

The students express their gratitude for the opportunity to visit and explore Gumaca's historical landmarks and engage with its community and thankful for Gumaca Mayor Webster Letargo and to the staff led by Tourism Designate/Executive Assistant Russel DL. Ner for their assistance and hospitality throughout their research.
