LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Philippine Information Agency (PIA)'s Kapihan sa Quezon has become a trusted space for dialogue between government officials, media practitioners, and the public. Over the years, it has facilitated meaningful conversations on pressing issues, allowing for better understanding and collaboration among stakeholders.

From its humble beginnings to becoming a renowned platform for open discussions and information sharing, Kapihan sa PIA Quezon has played a vital role in fostering transparency and public engagement. Kapihan sa PIA Quezon and its PIA Quezon hosted their 7th anniversary celebration at the Pacific Mall in Lucena City on December 7, 2023, to commemorate their remarkable achievements over the years. The grand celebration was graced by representatives of Quezon Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan and Lucena City Mayor Mark Alcala, as well as leaders from the business and media sectors.

The event highlighted the importance of transparency and public engagement in driving positive change in society, as the media plays a crucial role in disseminating information and fostering public discourse. It also served as an opportunity for Kapihan sa PIA Quezon to express their gratitude to their partners and stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout the years.

According to the Information Communications Manager of PIA, Lito Giron, in the beginning, there is a challenge to establishing a platform where government officials, business leaders, and media representatives can come together to discuss pressing issues and find common ground. However, with the continuous support and collaboration of all stakeholders, Kapihan sa PIA Quezon has successfully become a catalyst for positive change in the community.

He expressed gratitude to all the partners and stakeholders who have played a crucial role in making Kapihan sa PIA Quezon a success. Their unwavering support has not only strengthened the platform but also fostered a sense of unity and collaboration among different sectors. Without their dedication and commitment, it would not have been possible to create a space where meaningful discussions and constructive dialogue could take place, ultimately leading to positive change in the community.



In a statement, City Information Officer Minion Tan, representing the City Mayor of Lucena, said, "We all know that the role of media in politics is diverse, from influencing governance, policymaking, and how government operates. The media, so to speak, is a power house that has a lot of influence in society."

She also said, in a real sense, that the media serves as a watchdog, holding those in power accountable and ensuring transparency in government actions. This collaboration between different sectors and the media is crucial in promoting an informed and engaged citizenry, which is essential for a thriving democracy.



Tan also said that the city government acknowledges and supports the importance of a free and independent media in upholding democratic values. They recognize that a robust media landscape allows for the dissemination of diverse perspectives and encourages public participation in decision-making processes.

Meanwhile, Provincial Information Officer Jun Lubid, representing the Governor of Quezon Province, said that the transmission of true and correct information is important in order to have proper and effective governance. Lubid emphasized that an informed citizenry is crucial for the government to make well-informed decisions and policies that truly serve the needs and interests of the people.



He also said that the governor lauded PIA-Quezon for its efforts in promoting transparency and accountability through its various information campaigns and initiatives. The governor believes that an informed public is essential for a thriving democracy and appreciates the role of the media in facilitating this exchange of information.

The governor emphasized the importance of open communication and encouraged other communities to replicate this initiative to drive positive change in their own localities. She also acknowledged that by fostering a culture of transparency and accountability, communities can effectively address pressing issues and ensure the welfare of their constituents.
