LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Quezon Provincial Government has implemented various initiatives to ensure the well-being of its residents and to intensify its healthcare services in collaboration with national agencies and local health units, with which Quezon Governor Angelina Tan signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the partnership in addressing the province's healthcare needs.

This Memorandum of Understanding with Addressing Complications Today through the Network of Warriors (ACTNOW) for Chronic Kidney Disease will partner 11 provinces to have free access to chronic kidney disease diagnosis of needy patients in the province through the Urine Albumin-Creatinine Ratio (UACR) Machine.

The UACR Machine is a state-of-the-art technology that allows for accurate and efficient diagnosis of chronic kidney disease. This partnership will greatly benefit the residents of Quezon province by providing them with access to this crucial diagnostic tool, ultimately improving their overall healthcare outcomes.

According to reports, up to 150,000 Quezon residents will benefit from the machine, which will check the albumin levels in the patient's blood, thereby preventing complications that could lead to kidney damage.

One of the national programs that will also soon be implemented in the province is the 'Lab for All Program. It aims to provide accessible and affordable medical testing for all residents, regardless of their financial status.

'Lab for All Program,' or “Laboratoryo, Konsulta, at Gamot Para sa Lahat," is a medical mission initiative led by First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and is part of a larger effort to provide primary healthcare services to Filipinos, particularly those in need.

During a meeting of healthcare officials on December 18, 2023, led by Governor Tan, it was announced that the 'Lab for All Program' will be launched in partnership with local hospitals and clinics to ensure widespread coverage and availability of medical testing services in the first month of the year 2024, where it will provide free medical services such as physical and medical examinations, free consultations, and giving free medicine.

The discussion was attended by some staff from the Department of Health - Quezon, PhilHealth Region IV-A, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development - Quezon, and Provincial Health Office representatives.

The Quezon governor's dream is to provide accessible and affordable healthcare services to all residents of the province and ensure that no one is left behind in terms of healthcare and well-being. The governor emphasized the importance of this initiative in promoting a healthier and more productive community.

Tan, as the author of the implementation of Universal Health Care has also been working to make it longer lasting and sustainable by collaborating with various government agencies and stakeholders. This includes establishing partnerships with PhilHealth, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Provincial Health Office to streamline efforts and maximize resources.

The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) are two of the international organizations that have also partnered with the local government to support and enhance healthcare services in Quezon Province.

The plan to focus on remote areas in Quezon, such as the towns of San Francisco, San Narciso, and San Andres , where access to healthcare is limited. These initiatives aim to address the healthcare disparities in these areas and ensure that all residents have equal access to quality healthcare services.

Additionally, the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Kristin Mae-Jean Villaseñor, suggests programs and is the driving force behind the implementation of these initiatives. She actively collaborates with local government units, non-government organizations, and other stakeholders to secure funding and resources for the projects.

Dr. Villaseñor also conducts regular assessments and evaluations to monitor the effectiveness of the programs and make necessary adjustments to ensure their success. Her dedication and leadership have greatly contributed to the significant improvements in healthcare services in Quezon Province.

This and many more have earned Quezon Province a reputation as a model for other provinces in terms of healthcare development. The province has seen a decrease in mortality rates, an increase in access to quality healthcare facilities, and improved overall health outcomes for its residents.

Making Governor Tan an influential figure in the healthcare sector. Under her guidance, Quezon Province has implemented innovative strategies and collaborations with various stakeholders to address the unique healthcare needs of its population.

Governor Tan's commitment to improving healthcare has not only transformed the lives of individuals in her province but also serves as an inspiration for other regions striving for similar advancements in their healthcare systems.
