GUMACA, Quezon - A year ago, the town of Gumaca in Quezon province shed its troubled past and etched its name in history as an "insurgency-free" municipality. This momentous occasion wasn't just a declaration; it was a powerful symbol of triumph over years of hardship and a testament to the collective spirit of a community determined to build a brighter future.
Today, Gumaca stands as a beacon of progress, peace, and unity. Children laugh and play carefree in safe neighborhoods. Farmers till their land with renewed hope, reaping the rewards of hard work and a peaceful environment. Businesses flourish under a climate of stability and security, contributing to the town's economic growth.
During his speech on January 26, 2024, Gumaca Mayor Webster Letargo expressed his gratitude to the resilient residents of Gumaca for their unwavering dedication and commitment to rebuilding their town. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by individuals and praised their unwavering spirit in the face of adversity. Mayor Letargo emphasized that this momentous occasion marked not only a physical transformation but also a profound transformation of the community's mindset, as they had overcome challenges together and emerged stronger than ever before.

On January 25, 2023, a signing ceremony and declaration of internal peace and security (SIPS) officially affirmed Gumaca's liberation from the influence of the communist New People's Army (NPA). It is a reminder that through unwavering commitment, unwavering unity, and a shared vision for peace, even the most daunting challenges can be overcome.
