STA. ROSA CITY, Laguna - The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Santa Rosa Campus witnessed a momentous occasion on January 26, 2024, with the groundbreaking ceremony for the UST-Dr. William T. Belo Interdisciplinary Research Institute (UST-WiTBIRIn). This new building marks a significant leap forward in the campus’s dedication to education and research excellence.

The ceremony, led by UST officials and renowned architects, brought together key figures from various sectors who have united in their passion for nurturing education and research. Among them was the esteemed Dr. William T. Belo, founder of Wilcon Depot and the institute’s generous benefactor. His unwavering commitment to advancing education and community development is embodied in this landmark project.

Joining in the celebration were Vice Mayor Arnod B. Arcillas and Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas, who expressed their deepest gratitude to UST and Dr. Belo for their ongoing support of Santa Rosa.

In his inspiring speech, Mayor Arlen emphasized the critical role of collaboration between the public and private sectors in empowering both education and community progress.

He stated, “Our journey together exemplifies how individuals, regardless of their background, can contribute and pledge their dedication to offering the best education to our youth and fostering the growth of our community.”

UST-WiTBIRIn will be the second building to grace the UST Santa Rosa Campus, following the UST-Dr. Tony Tan Caktiong Innovation Center. This newly envisioned institute aims to bolster the crucial research sector, an indispensable pillar for societal advancement. The construction of such facilities serves as a testament to UST’s unwavering commitment to nurturing knowledge and innovation.

The ceremony culminated with the symbolic Rite of Blessing and Burying of Time Capsule, signifying UST’s enduring dedication to the pursuit of knowledge and Santa Rosa’s commitment to providing quality education for all. With the rise of UST-WiTBIRIn, the UST Santa Rosa Campus stands poised to solidify its position as a beacon of academic excellence, not only for its students but also for the wider community.
