LUCENA CITY – The regional weekly newspaper Sentinel Times in Quezon province and the Calabarzon region recently celebrated its seventh year of public information service, solidifying its position as a reliable source of news and updates for the local community.
Over the years, The Sentinel Times has consistently delivered unbiased reporting and in-depth coverage of various issues that affect the region, earning the respect and loyalty of its readership. As it enters its eighth year, the newspaper remains committed to upholding its journalistic integrity and providing timely and accurate news to its ever-growing audience.
The Lucena City-based newspaper, and also covers other provinces in the region, was founded by its publisher/owner, Ma. Nimfa L. Estrellado. Since then, and for seven years now, it has relentlessly pursued its goal of developmental communication and asserted the people’s right to vital information and of a free press. In its seven years of existence, there were thorns all along the way, “there were ups and downs and mostly sacrifices, the people behind the weekly publication who have been working tirelessly to deliver accurate and timely news to the community." ” Estrellado said over the weekend.
Despite the challenges, the newspaper has remained steadfast in its commitment to providing unbiased reporting and serving as a voice for the people. The dedication and hard work of the team have earned them the trust and support of their readers, making them an integral part of the community's information network.
Estrellado also added that, “We are so happy to be of service to our people by providing correct, true and timely news and information about almost every issue, event, and personality that affect our daily lives. The Sentinel Times is accredited by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Lucena City and is accepting legal/judicial and public notices for publication, as well as promotional and Ads placement on print and website. The Sentinel is a stakeholder and its corporate social responsilibility, outreach program and campus journalism.
On the 2023, the Sentinel received various awards from different organizations recognizing its excellence in journalism and community service. These awards serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Sentinel team in delivering reliable news and information to the public.
Estrellado, CEO and publisher, was named on May 13, 2023, at the International Golden Awards Philippines (IGAP) 2023 ceremony at the Aberdeen Court Hotel on Quezon Avenue in Quezon City as the Outstanding Female Journalist and Publisher and Inspiring Youth Advocate of the Year.
At the MELA Hinirang ng Southern Tagalog ceremony, which took place at the Queen Margarette Hotel in Lucena, City on April 22, 2023, Estrellado was also awarded with this award. In addition to being named the Most Outstanding Female Journalist and Young Advocate of the Year, she was presented with the Southern Tagalog Excellence in Leadership Award (STELA) at a ceremony held at the Queen Margarette Hotel on October 31, 2023, at Domoit, Diversion Road, Lucena City, Quezon.
Its recognition in journalism and community service, the Sentinel also actively engages in corporate social responsibility initiatives. Through its outreach program, the Sentinel strives to make a positive impact on the local community by organizing events and activities that address pressing social issues. Moreover, the Sentinel supports campus journalism by providing opportunities for aspiring young journalists to contribute to its publications and gain valuable experience in the field.
