LOS BAÑOS, Laguna - Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan of Quezon province highlighted the importance of the Citizen Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act (CAFPRA) in promoting not only national security but also the welfare of the Filipino people.
During the closing ceremony of the Basic Citizen Military Training (BCMT) of the 4th Community Defense Center, 4th Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army (PA) at Camp General Macario Sakay, Los Baños, Laguna, on January 31, 2024, Governor Tan as the guest speaker emphasized that the CAFPRA plays a crucial role in ensuring the readiness and preparedness of the nation in times of emergencies.
"As I go over the Citizen Armed Forces of the Philippines Reservist Act, it is stated therein that the mission of the Citizen Armed Forces is to provide the base for the expansion of the armed forces not only in the event of war, invasion, or rebellion, but also that it is your mandate to assist in relief and rescue during disasters or calamities, assist in socioeconomic development and aid in the promotion, operation, and maintenance of potential government and private utilities, among others," Governor Tan said.
"In basic terms, a Citizen Armed Forces reservist is yearning towards service to the people," she added.
Governor Tan also stated that honor, patriotism, and duty are the core values that the CAFPRA instills in its reservists, empowering them to contribute to the well-being and safety of their fellow Filipinos.
"On the occasion of this closing ceremony and being upfront, of which that has been a great privilege to be part, I leave with you the challenge to truly be of service to the people and be partners in the ongoing effort of the government toward community and nation-building," she said.
"May all of you be strong and courageous as you set out to accomplish the work you have committed to do," she added.
Over 100 reservists participated in BCMT Class 02-2023 and successfully completed their training.
The closing ceremony was a testament to their dedication and commitment to serving their community and nation. As they return to their respective roles, these reservists are now equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively in times of need.
4RCDG, under the command of Colonel Ramil Anoyo PA, also congratulates the reservists on their successful completion of BCMT Class 02-2023. The Colonel also emphasized the importance of their contribution to community and nation-building, highlighting the impact they can make in times of need.
"Isa puso niyo iyong mga tinuro ng 4RCDG sa inyo, at panatilihin ang disiplina maging sa reserve force o sa civilian niyong buhay," the colonel said.
Basic Citizen's Military Training (BCMT) is a military training course conducted by the Philippine Army through the Army Reserve Command. It is an entry-level training course undertaken by Filipino citizens wanting to enlist in the reserve force.
BCMT instruction is administered by a joint training pool of military instructors from both regular and reserve forces and is usually conducted inside any of the Philippine Army's training camps. Guest instructors are requested from other government agencies and non-government organizations (NGO) for specialized instructions.
Special Basic Citizen's Military Training (SBCMT) is a special course conducted by the Philippine Army in response to a request from a Local Government Unit (LGU). Funding is usually provided by the requesting agency as compared to regular BCMT, which receives funding from the Army.
