INFANTA, Quezon - During a zoom interview with media led by Lito Giron, PIA Quezon Head, on January 31, 2024 at Kapihan sa PIA Quezon, Mayor Filipina Grace America addressed various controversies surrounding her administration and discussed the progress of her municipality.
One major controversy was the ongoing concern regarding the Land Transportation Office (LTO) extension location in Infanta. The mayor firmly denied accusations of withholding location clearance, reiterating her unwavering support for infrastructure projects that benefit the community.
Mayor America emphasized that her 10-hectare site development plan explicitly allocates 1,200 square meters for the LTO, exceeding their initial request of 1,000 square meters.
"In my 10-hectare site development plan, 1,200 sqm are explicitly allocated for the LTO, exceeding their initial request of 1,000 sqm," Mayor America clarified. "This designated area is clearly visible in the approved plan and remains available."
She further debunked claims that a councilor told Congressman Mark Enverga that there was no space for the LTO in the government complex. "The approved site development plan clearly shows a designated space for the LTO," she said. "I categorically deny the claims that no space was allocated. The designated area remains available and has not been given to anyone else."
The Mayor expressed gratitude to Congressman Enverga and explained their discussions with Former LTO Regional Director Francisco Ranches, Jr. regarding the LTO's proposal. They decided against privatization to maintain control over fees and opted for a partnership model within the government complex and that documentation confirming this decision exists.
Furthermore, a plan was established involving the LTO identifying four temporary sites while the permanent building was constructed. Infanta identified suitable locations, and the LTO was responsible for choosing, equipping, and staffing them, while the local government covered rent and furniture. However, the pandemic halted these plans.
According to Mayor America LTO acknowledged Infanta as their partner, but confusion arose due to rumors of an LTO office being built in another barangay. The Mayor attributed this to a change in regional directors, with the new one unaware of previous plans. They are following up on the status of their original proposal despite the new building's existence.
Mayor America emphasized that the issue is not political, and she welcomes any proponent. Her primary concern is ensuring efficient and convenient access to LTO services for residents.
Infanta Builds for the Future with New Municipal Hall and Recycling Initiative
Infanta, Quezon, is taking a step toward a brighter future with the construction of a new, first-class municipal hall. This ambitious project, announced by Mayor America during a "Kapihan sa PIA Quezon", reflects her vision for a thriving and well-served community. The new hall, which will house various government offices and serve as a hub for community activities, promises to be more than just an administrative center.
Strategically located on National Road in Barangay Common, the 10-hectare complex offers easy access for residents and aligns with the existing administrative infrastructure. It will be a multi-functional space, encompassing a convention center, evacuation center, and a unique facility dedicated to standardizing production and promoting a beloved local delicacy. This collaboration between the local government and makers aims to preserve local heritage while supporting small businesses.
The project, funded by over ₱295 million, is already underway. The four-winged structure will accommodate various local and national public offices, creating a convenient government complex. Completion is expected in 2025.
Infanta is also tackling another challenge – plastic waste management – with a new end-to-end solution. The Local Government Unit (LGU) Infanta, in collaboration with Resiklos, is building a Plastic Waste Processing Facility and Equipment at the Sanitary landfill. This initiative aims to convert plastic waste into high-quality by-products such as chairs, tables, and other equipment for schools and other beneficiaries.
The groundbreaking ceremony saw the participation of private partners, including representatives from Envirotech Waste Recycling Inc. and Eagral Business Solution OPC. LGU councilors and department heads also showed their support. The LGU is confident that this project will significantly benefit the community, not only by creating valuable products but also by promoting environmental preservation.
