LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Department of National Defense (DND) Senior Undersecretary Irineo Espino has praised the exemplary healthcare efforts put forth by the Quezon Provincial Government in the successful completion of the new Camp Nakar Station Hospital (CNSH) stating these partnerships were instrumental in bringing the new CNSH to fruition, enhancing healthcare services for military members and the wider community.

In the inauguration of the new 3-story hospital building at Camp General Guillermo Nakar in Lucena City on February 27, 2024, Espino highlighted the collaborative efforts of Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, the Provincial Department of Health, and the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM), led by LTGEN Efren Baluyot.

"The commitment to providing quality healthcare facilities reflects our collective duty to prioritize the health and welfare of our military personnel. This project showcases the power of collaboration, and it should serve as a model for other military camps seeking to improve the overall well-being of our soldiers, their families, and surrounding communities." he added.

In a significant announcement, the senior undersecretary also revealed the DND's decision to provide nationwide service retirees access to the hospital's facilities as part of their benefits package. This initiative demonstrates the government's dedication to supporting veterans and ensuring they receive the care they deserve.

"This measure honors the dedication and sacrifice of our service retirees, providing them with the necessary medical support they need while also recognizing their valuable contributions to our nation's security and well-being extending this benefit, the government is showing its commitment to upholding the welfare of those who have served our country," Espino emphasized.

Governor Tan's steadfast support

Governor Tan underscored her commitment to equal access to quality health services for all, regardless of sector or location. She pledged continued support for developmental initiatives to further enhance the province's healthcare system.

'Equal access to quality health services for all Filipinos is a top priority of my administration,' Governor Tan stated. 'The military community in Quezon Province deserves the best possible care.'

She further emphasized her commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, ensuring healthcare access for both military personnel and civilians in the province.

"I'm here to guide and lead the way in creating a more inclusive and efficient healthcare system for the soldiers and civilians of our province," Governor Tan added. "Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind in terms of healthcare access and quality."

Camp Nakar Station Hospital

The newly completed Camp Nakar Station Hospital (CNSH) is set to become fully operational by the end of next year, delivering essential medical services to military personnel and civilians in the region. The new hospital is a Level 1 facility with a 25-bed capacity. It will provide clinical services, such as consultations, laboratory tests, and emergency care, to military personnel and their families.

This collaborative project between the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was realized through the DND's Tatag ng Imprastraktura para sa Kapayapaan at Seguridad (TIKAS) program. TIKAS focuses on modernizing infrastructure within military camps and facilities nationwide, aiming to enhance the morale of military personnel and their families.

The CNSH joins a network of hospitals constructed or upgraded under the TIKAS program, including other hospitals. These advancements are part of the DND's larger mission to modernize the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). The DND recognizes the vital role a well-equipped and well-trained AFP plays in national peace and security.

AFP Health Service Command Acting Commander Col Armand P Lacanilao MC, and AFP Health Service Center-Southern Luzon (AFPHSC-SL) Acting Chief Col Nerio C Zabala were also present during the inauguration of the facility.
