LUCENA CITY - A initiative in Lucena City is bridging the gap between residents and their government by directly addressing issues to improve the community's well-being. This initiative provides access to a wide range of essential services while also instilling a sense of belonging and empowerment.

People's Day, which began in 2014 as "City Hall in the Barangay" under then-Mayor Rhoderick "Dondon" Alcala, who is currently the Vice Mayor, has been a recurring event for the past decade. Mayor Mark Don Victor Alcala upholds this tradition, displaying the city's continuous dedication to servicing its citizens.

Residents of Barra and Talao-talao in Lucena City have access to a variety of services during the People's Day event on February 15, 2024, including medical check-ups, legal consultations, and job placement aid.

Mayor Mark Don Victor Alcala and Vice Mayor Rhoderick "Dondon" Alcala led the aforementioned activity, along with several department heads of the city government. The barangay chairmans, Barangay Barra Chairman Kent Adversario and Barangay Chairman Talao-Talao Rey Briones, also joined in on this occasion.

During the program, Vice Mayor Alcala expressed gratitude to the residents for their unwavering support of local government initiatives and highlighted the importance of these outreach efforts. He said this is the reason for continuing to support all local government programs, especially those delivered to their barangay.

Mayor Alcala recounted his experiences since launching the People's Day program. He noted that some city departments initially provided limited services, but driven by a commitment to better serve Lucena citizens, he prioritized expanding these offerings. The mayor's remarks were met with enthusiastic applause, signaling strong public satisfaction with the program.

The program offered diverse services, including pre-employment coaching, waste management support, disaster preparedness training and kits, senior/PWD/solo parent ID distribution, mobile registration, free birth certificates, legal consultations, a hydroponics seminar, veterinary medical care, seminars on pertinent laws, medical and dental services, and even free haircuts and massages.

Barangay officials expressed deep appreciation for the city's support, noting the tangible impact on residents' lives and the opportunity for deeper collaboration between barangays and the local government. They pledged to continue working alongside the city administration to improve the quality of life for their communities.

Residents were grateful for the chance to connect with officials, address concerns, and access essential services within their own neighborhoods. They praised the program's commitment to fostering a strong sense of community and responsiveness.

Mayor and Vice Mayor Alcala's People's Day initiative showcases their dedication to accessible and impactful government. By holding the program in various barangays, they promote inclusivity, community engagement, and equal access to services for all residents.

Lucena City demonstrates its unwavering commitment to accessible government with its People's Day program. This initiative fosters a deep connection between the city administration and its communities, empowering residents to have their voices heard directly by elected officials.

By bringing People's Day directly to each barangay, Lucena City ensures all residents have equal access to essential services and support. This approach eliminates the need for lengthy travel, making government interactions more convenient and cost-effective for everyone.
