INFANTA, Quezon - The Quezon Titans have been a successful basketball team for boys in the province. Now, the provincial government aims to create a similar platform for young women by forming a volleyball team. This initiative seeks to discover and nurture talented female volleyball players in Quezon Province.

The search is now on for skilled players born in 2006 or later to join the first-ever Quezon Women's Volleyball Team under 18. Quezon Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen Tan" fully supports the program, which started with a well-attended tryout in Infanta, Quezon, on February 10, 2024.

Provincial Sports Head, Aries Mercene, led the Infanta tryouts, where a team of 20 players representing the rural areas of Real, Infanta, and General Nakar was formed. "We understand that talented athletes in more remote areas face unique challenges," Mercene explained. "That's why we're bringing tryouts directly to them."

To create a level playing field for all young athletes, Quezon's four districts and the combined region of Real, Infanta, and General Nakar will each form teams. A series of one-day leagues will see these teams compete, with scouts selecting the best players for the final Quezon Women's Volleyball Team.

The initiative aims to provide opportunities for young women in Quezon Province to showcase their volleyball skills and potentially pursue a career in the sport. The provincial government believes that this program will not only promote gender equality but also contribute to the overall development of sports in the region.

"Our governor believes every young woman in Quezon deserves a chance to showcase her skills," Mercene emphasized, "regardless of where she lives."

Additional tryouts for this exciting initiative are scheduled as follows: February 17, 2024: Quezon Convention Center (Districts 1 and 2), February 18, 2024: Pitogo Town Plaza (District 3), February 24, 2024: Gumaca Municipal Gym (District 4).

In the end, when the five teams are formed, they will face each other to compete in the one day league, where the final team will be chosen to represent the Quezon Women's Volleyball Team that will compete in the upcoming regional tournament.

The Quezon Women's Volleyball Team is just one aspect of the Provincial Government's commitment to strengthen sports programs and nurture the talents of young Quezon athletes. This commitment also aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among the youth, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork within the community.
