GENERAL NAKAR, Quezon - Off-road enthusiasts witnessed a spectacle of skill and power as the Philippine Overland Expedition (PHL-OX) 2024 commenced in General Nakar, Quezon.
Competitors unleashed the capabilities of their 4x4 vehicles on a grueling, man-made race track in Brgy. Anoling, showcasing their mastery of off-road driving, navigation, and recovery.
Mayor Esee Ruzol ignited the competition with a spirited demonstration of his own 4x4 prowess. Teams fielding production, modified, and prototype vehicles then plunged into the muddy, rocky course in a thrilling battle for the fastest time.
A large crowd, including General Nakar residents and visitors from neighboring towns, roared their support throughout the day. Mayor Ruzol expressed gratitude to participants and sponsors, highlighting the event's potential to boost tourism, livelihoods, and General Nakar's reputation as a hub for off-road enthusiasts.
The presence of former Senator Mar Roxas, supporting the event and the community, further elevated the excitement and underscored the growing significance of off-road competitions in the area.
The PHL-OX 2024 officially began at the General Nakar Municipal Hall in Quezon. Competitors and open category racers will face multiple timed stages en route to the final challenge in Umiray. These natural tracks rigorously test off-road driving, navigation, and recovery abilities. Teams are awarded points for speed, with penalties imposed for safety violations.
A substantial prize pool of P1,000,000 awaits the winners, with the champion team claiming P500,000, and the open class winner taking home P200,000.
