TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso recently fulfilled a long-standing wish of the Aeta community in Barangay Tongko, Tayabas, by officially opening a new, sturdy hanging bridge. The bridge provides a safer and more reliable way for the community to access their homes and resources.
Aeta Community Governor Magtibay and elders formally accepted the bridge during a ceremony attended by Tayabas Vice Mayor Rosauro “Oro” Dalida, Councilors Elsa Rubio and Dino Romero, City Engineer Christian Tamaño, and NCIP-Catanauan officer in charge Fil Vincent Garcia, Engineer JM Singh. Barangay Chairman Apolonia Abelido and the Sangguniang Barangay of Tongko were also present.
"This bridge symbolizes our commitment to supporting all communities within Tayabas," said Mayor Reynoso-Pontioso. "We understand the importance of infrastructure and will work tirelessly to identify and address the needs of our residents.”
Additionally, on March 21, 2024, OCM-MHMERT demonstrated its commitment to healthcare access with free consultations, laboratory tests, and dental services for children and elderly members of the Aeta community in Sitio Tribu, Barangay Tongko.
The dedicated Mobile Health and Dental Services team, led by OCM-MHMERT Leader and Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Ma. Graciela Derada-De Leon, provided essential care despite rainy conditions. Services included medical consultations, ECG, X-rays, tooth extractions, cleanings, and more.
Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso visited the site to show support. The mayor offered blessings, distributed gifts, and demonstrated the city's dedication to the Aeta people's well-being.
