ATIMONAN, Quezon - The Atimonan local Government, led by Mayor Ticoy Mendoza and Vice Mayor Zenaida Veranga recently demonstrated its commitment to consumer protection and ethical business practices by hosting a comprehensive seminar on "Deceptive, Unfair, and Unconscionable Sales Acts or Practices."
The initiative, spearheaded by the Special Project Unit Atimonan (SPU) under the leadership of Atty. Elvis Uy, attracted a diverse audience of 80 participants. Business owners, labor representatives, farmers, and fisherfolk gathered at the Atimonan National Agency Center to gain valuable insights from Senior Trade Industry Development Specialist Phillip Lee Oliveros of DTI-Quezon.
"We believe that informed consumers and responsible businesses are the foundation of a thriving local economy," stated Mayor Mendoza. "This seminar is a crucial step in ensuring that Atimonan's marketplace operates with fairness and integrity."
The seminar, part of the town's Civil Service Organization (CSO) Empowerment Program, covered a wide range of topics, sucha as identifying deceptive marketing and sales tactics, understanding consumer rights under Philippine law, best practices for businesses to maintain ethical standards and mechanisms for consumers to report unfair trade practices
"Knowledge is power," emphasized Atty. Uy. "By empowering our citizens with this information, we create a more resilient community where everyone can participate in the economy with confidence."
The positive response to the seminar underscores Atimonan's dedication to fostering a business environment built on trust and transparency. The town government plans to continue similar initiatives in the future, further strengthening its consumer protection framework.
