TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – The Bakawayan Footbridge Project officially broke ground in Barangay Manato Station, Tagkawayan, Quezon with Mayor Carlo Eleazar presiding over the ceremony and subsequent Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing.
The project aims to improve safety and accessibility while also fostering growth in the barangay's tourism sector.
"This footbridge represents a significant opportunity for our community," said Pambayang Federasyon ng Liga ng mga Barangay (PPLB) Captain Angelita Guban. "We are grateful for this project and believe it will open doors for Barangay Manato Station to showcase its natural beauty and attractions."
The Bakawayan Footbridge Project aligns with the barangay's recent win of PHP 1.5 million in funding through the Matatagkawayan Tourism Project, announced during the inaugural Tourism Night on February 3, 2024.
The new bridge is expected to provide a safer and more convenient crossing point for residents and visitors, particularly those accessing popular tourist spots near the river.
Barangay Tourism Council (BTC) Manato President Larry Rodriguez highlighted the potential benefits, stating, "This footbridge will make it easier for tourists to explore our barangay's hidden gems, boosting our local businesses and creating new opportunities for our residents."
The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Councilor Revie Masangkay, representatives from the Municipal Tourism Office, Kaway Tagkawayan Municipal Tourism Council, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, and other key stakeholders.
Municipal Tourism Officer Anna Louella Villanueva expressed the municipality's support, "We are committed to working with Barangay Manato Station to develop sustainable tourism initiatives that benefit the entire community. This project is a positive step forward."
