DOLORES, Quezon - The municipality of Dolores, Quezon, made significant strides towards a sustainable future on May 3, 2024, with the launch of a comprehensive reforestation program, the adoption of a Forest Land-Use Plan (FLUP), and the inauguration of a new Farm to Market Road.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), led by Red Nilo Tamoria, partnered with the Dolores Local Government, headed by Mayor Orlan Calayag, to implement a far-reaching FLUP.
"This FLUP embodies our commitment to Dolores' future," said Mayor Calayag. "With DENR, we'll protect our forests' health, benefiting our environment and residents for generations. This isn't just paperwork, it's a promise to balance progress with preserving the land we all depend on."
"The success of these projects highlights the power of partnership," Mayor Calayag noted. "From the DENR to our barangay officials, and the tireless work of our farmers, we're building a better Dolores together," he said.
The Farm-to-Market Road in Sitio Saliw Ilaya, Barangay Manggahan, also opened, aiding agricultural growth, “This road is a lifeline for our farmers,” said Barangay Captain Gregorio Matibag. “Now, we can get our crops to market faster and fresher, improving our livelihoods and supporting our local economy.”
He emphasized the importance of infrastructure in boosting the community's agricultural sector and expressed gratitude for the government's support in improving their access to markets.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Congressman David "Jayjay" Suarez emphasized the road's broader significance: “Investing in infrastructure like this road is investing in the future of our rural communities. When farmers thrive, Dolores thrives. This isn't just about transport; it's about creating opportunities for people to build better lives right here."
Suarez is one of the stakeholders who has been advocating for improved infrastructure in Dolores to support the agricultural sector and boost economic growth in the region.
