LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office – CALABARZON has distributed 13,400 family food packs to families affected by typhoon Aghon in the region on May 27, 2024, where over 3,000 families have been displaced, according to the DSWD.
Today, volunteers unloaded 5,000 family food packs (FFPs) delivered by the DSWD Field Office-CALABARZON to the Infanta Convention Center in Infanta, Quezon, for families affected by Typhoon Aghon in the municipality. These FFPs are part of the 50,000 boxes committed by the DSWD Field Office-CALABARZON to augment Quezon province’s resources for disaster operations.
An additional 3,400 boxes of FFPs also arrived at the Gumaca Batching Plant today. Earlier, on Sunday, May 26, 5,000 FFPs were delivered to Tayabas City for those affected by Typhoon Aghon.
In a coordinated effort, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) CALABARZON has prepared 1,100 sets of hygiene kits to be distributed to families affected by the flooding caused by Typhoon Aghon in Quezon province. The Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and Sta. Rosa City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) have generously loaned vehicles to facilitate the distribution of these essential supplies.
DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said that more than 2,500 families or more than 8,800 individuals are staying in 165 evacuation centers in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the Bicol Region as of 6 a.m. on Monday, May 27. Aside from this, hundreds of families are staying with relatives or friends in various provinces.
The DSWD has distributed P1.3 million worth of food packs and non-food items. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported seven persons were injured due to Aghon's onslaught.
The DSWD CALABARZON and OCD CALABARZON remain committed to providing timely assistance to typhoon-affected communities and will continue to coordinate with local government units to assess and address the needs of the people.
