PAGBILAO, Quezon - Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rexlon Gatchalian personally oversaw the distribution of financial aid to thousands of families in Pagbilao, Quezon, today, May 28, 2024. This initiative forms part of the Department's ongoing commitment to assist families affected by Typhoon Aghon, which struck the province on May 26, 2024.

Through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, the DSWD aims to empower families to recover and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the typhoon's devastation. The AICS program serves as a crucial social safety net, offering support to individuals and families during unexpected crises, such as the illness or death of a family member.

Secretary Gatchalian underscored the importance of sustained support and assistance to facilitate community recovery and rebuilding efforts. "The DSWD is dedicated to providing timely and essential aid to families in need," he affirmed. "We recognize the challenges many families are facing, and we are here to help them regain their footing."

Following President Marcos' directive, Secretary Gatchalian has ensured the mobilization of all necessary resources to provide aid and support to those impacted by the typhoon. He also urged local government units to collaborate closely with the DSWD to guarantee a coordinated and effective response to the needs of affected communities. The DSWD is committed to reaching every family in need throughout the province of Quezon.

Each family from the typhoon-ravaged barangays of Pinagbayan, Daungan, and Del Carmen has received ₱2,000 in financial assistance to aid their recovery and rebuilding efforts. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is also actively collaborating with other government agencies and non-profit organizations to provide additional support, including food, shelter, and medical aid.

1st District Rep. Mark Enverga, Quezon Vice Governor Anacleto "Third" Alcala representing Quezon Governor Angelina "Doktora Helen" Tan, Pagbilao Mayor Angelica "Gigi" Portes, and other government officials were present during the distribution to demonstrate their solidarity with the community.

In his statement, Vice Governor Alcala reaffirmed the local government's dedication to assisting those in need and ensuring that no one is left behind during times of crisis. He further expressed gratitude to the DSWD for their unwavering support and collaboration in providing aid during difficult times.

In addition to financial aid, the DSWD distributed food packs, hygiene kits, and other essential items to address the community's immediate needs and overall well-being. The department extends its appreciation to the local government of Pagbilao, Quezon, for their partnership, as well as to the volunteers and staff who contributed to the success of the aid distribution.

Secretary Gatchalian's efforts will continue in Mauban and other parts of Quezon province to ensure that aid reaches all those in need. The DSWD remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the Filipino people and safeguarding their well-being during times of crisis.
