LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Engr. Romulo Angeles, Division Manager of the National Irrigation Administration's Quezon Irrigation Management Office (IMO), conducted a thorough inspection of several irrigation systems in Quezon province severely impacted by Typhoon Aghon on May 27, 2024. The assessment included a close examination of the Dumacaa River Irrigation System (RIS), which plays a crucial role in irrigating vast agricultural lands in the region.
The inspection is a critical component of the NIA's proactive response to Typhoon Aghon's aftermath. It aligns with Regional Manager Engr. Roberto Dela Cruz's directive to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the typhoon's impact on irrigation infrastructure across CALABARZON. The findings will inform the NIA's rehabilitation efforts to ensure the swift restoration of irrigation services to farmers.
"The devastation caused by Typhoon Aghon to our irrigation systems is a significant challenge for our agricultural communities," said Engr. Angeles. "However, the NIA is fully committed to restoring these vital lifelines as quickly as possible. We are working tirelessly to assess the full extent of the damage and to mobilize the necessary resources for repair and rehabilitation."
During the inspection, Engr. Angeles met with local farmers and stakeholders to gather firsthand accounts of the typhoon's impact and to reassure them of the NIA's dedication to their recovery. He emphasized the agency's commitment to providing the necessary support to farmers during this difficult time.
The NIA is currently consolidating data on the total damage to both irrigation infrastructure and crops in the region. This information will be used to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation plan aimed at restoring irrigation services and ensuring the long-term resilience of the agricultural sector.
