TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recently empowered local stakeholders in Tagkawayan, Quezon, with a comprehensive training and orientation program.

The initiative focused on preparing participants for the successful implementation of the upcoming 2024 Population Census (PopCen) and the Community Based Monitoring System-Barangay Profile Data Collection (CBMS).

Roberto Ramos, Statistical Specialist II of the PSA, emphasized the pivotal role of accurate data in shaping effective policies and programs for development. By identifying community needs and targeting interventions, data can drive poverty reduction and inclusive growth. The training equipped local officials and personnel with the methodologies, processes, and tools required for successful data collection.

Tagkawayan Mayor Carlo Eleazar, a staunch advocate of data-driven governance, actively participated in the event, underscoring the local government's commitment to collaborating with the PSA. He stressed the importance of reliable and timely data in crafting responsive programs and projects tailored to the community's specific needs.

Eleazar also highlighted the positive impact data-driven decision-making has had on local government operations, resulting in improved service delivery and enhanced quality of life for residents. He encouraged continuous learning and adaptation to fully harness the potential of data in governance.

Additionally, Eleazar emphasized the need to invest in technology and training to bolster the data analysis skills of local government personnel. He believes effective data utilization enables better resource allocation and prioritization of initiatives with the greatest community impact.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including heads of municipal offices, barangay captains, and barangay secretaries, who play a crucial role in the data collection process. The training fostered collaboration and knowledge-sharing, promoting a deeper understanding of data's vital role in local development.

The collaborative efforts of the PSA and local stakeholders promise to yield valuable insights from the 2024 Census and CBMS. This data will inform decision-making and contribute to the progress of Tagkawayan and the nation as a whole. (with reports from Tagkawayan Teleradyo)
