TAYABAS CITY, Quezon —While Typhoon Aghon may have left its mark on Tayabas City, the city government, under the leadership of Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso, has swiftly responded with a coordinated relief effort on May 27, 2024, to aid affected residents and begin the process of recovery.
The teams, comprised of city officials, police personnel, DRRMO responders, social workers, and volunteers, worked tirelessly to distribute food, medical supplies, hygiene kits, and other necessities to those in need. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing typhoon and nightfall, the teams successfully reached evacuation centers, demonstrating the city's commitment to the well-being of its residents.
Simultaneously, city engineers conducted structural assessments and placed warning signs near a damaged section of the By-Pass Road, ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians in the area. The city's disaster risk reduction and management office (DRRMO) has also been working round-the-clock to monitor the situation and coordinate response efforts.
Mayor Reynoso-Pontioso emphasized the importance of rapid response in times of crisis, stating, "Our priority is the safety and well-being of our residents. We are committed to providing them with the necessary support during this difficult time."
In addition to immediate relief efforts, the city government is focused on long-term recovery plans. These include assessing the full extent of the damage, developing strategies for rebuilding infrastructure, and providing support to affected families and businesses.
While data on injured residents is still being collected, relief operations are ongoing, with a focus on clearing debris and addressing the evolving needs of the community.
