URC partners with Sariaya for grander Agawan Festival 2024
URC Flour Division Operations Director Dario Arive Jr. and Sariaya Quezon Mayor Marcelo Gayeta led the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing. Witnessing the signing were (L-R) Graziella Mae Pons, URC HR Officer and HR Business Partner; Gemma Tacata, URC Senior Manager and EHSS; Lanie Mendoza, Sariaya Municipal Treasurer and Public Market Administrator; Marivic Gayeta, Organizer – Agawan Festival 2024; and Renaliz Miguel, Representative of Sariaya Tourism Culture and the Arts Office (STCAO).

SARIAYA, Quezon - Universal Robina Corporation (URC), through its Flour Division, is excited to partner with the local government of Sariaya, Quezon, and the Sariaya Tourism Culture and Arts Office (STCAO) to celebrate this year's Agawan Festival with even more excitement.

The Agawan Festival, held annually on May 15th, is a vibrant harvest festival honoring Saint Isidore the Laborer, patron saint of agriculture and good harvest. This "Happy Pandemonium" is one of four renowned harvest festivals in Quezon province.

Sariaya Mayor Marcelo Gayeta and his wife, Marivic Gayeta, the festival's organizing committee head, warmly welcomed URC Flour Division's sponsorship during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

“The town of Sariaya is delighted to partner with Universal Robina Corporation Flour Division this year. Their generous support and the recent opening of their new plant, providing jobs for our community, truly demonstrate their commitment to Sariaya's growth," said Mayor Gayeta.

The URC Flour Division, a leading flour miller in the Philippines, operates state-of-the-art mills in Manila, Sariaya, and Davao. These facilities allow URC to create top-quality, customized flour products for its customers.

URC's sponsorship of the Agawan Festival 2024 expresses the company's gratitude for Sariaya's support during the opening of their flour mills and blending facilities in Barangay Talaan, Aplaya Road.

The company's sponsorship includes exciting activities for festivalgoers. URC will provide flour to local bakeries to create 3,000 pieces of Sariaya's famous "Pinagong" bread, offering a unique and delicious experience for participants in the "Pinagong" eating activity. The "Agawan sa Bagakay" will offer participants the chance to win special prizes. Finally, URC will donate upcycled flour sacks for creative costumes in the Street Dance Contest.

“We're thrilled to contribute to the Agawan Festival's unique activities, particularly the 'Pinagong' eating event, highlighting URC's commitment to providing world-class flour," said Naida Ebora, Sales, Marketing, and Distribution Director, URC Flour.

Marivic Gayeta added, "Sariaya is grateful for URC's sponsorship. We're confident that residents and visitors alike will enjoy the enhanced festivities."

The Agawan Festival showcases a lively procession where people playfully grab treats, the "pabitin," hanging from houses. Buildings are adorned with colorful buntal hats, string beans, banana leaves, and traditional "bagakay" (young bamboo) decorated with snacks, local delicacies, fruits, candies, and money.

This year marks the festival's 25th anniversary, a testament to the town's rich cultural heritage. The Agawan Festival also features street dancing, cultural performances, and a grand fireworks display. The event is a celebration of Sariaya's vibrant history and traditions.
