DOLORES, Quezon – The Municipality of Dolores capped off a comprehensive 3-day Basic Incident Command System (BICS) training program on May 31, 2024, bolstering its preparedness for disasters and emergencies.

Spearheaded by Mayor Orlan Calayag, the initiative aimed to equip local government personnel, partner agencies, and community representatives with the necessary skills to effectively manage emergency situations.

Organized by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) led by MDRRMO chief April Reyes Cruz, the training program fostered collaboration between the local government unit (LGU), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) CALABARZON, and the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDDRMO).

A total of 37 participants from various LGU Dolores departments, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Department of Education (DepEd) Dolores underwent the intensive training. Civil society organizations (CSOs) such as REACT BALANI and GGPI actively participated alongside a representative from environmental NGO Ugnayan ng Maka-Kalikasan ng Bundok Banahaw. Barangay officials from Kinabuhayan and Sta. Lucia, Sangguniang Bayan Konsehala Maria Aileen Cabrera Corabo, and PPSK President Kryzt Andrey Bacay also joined the program, showcasing a united front in emergency response.

The 3-day program focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to implement the Incident Command System (ICS), a standardized approach for coordinating resources and personnel during emergencies. Participants honed their skills in establishing a unified command structure, managing incident resources, and ensuring clear communication protocols.

"This BICS training is a significant step forward in strengthening Dolores's disaster preparedness," said Mayor Calayag. "By equipping our LGU personnel, partner agencies, and community representatives with the ICS framework, we are ensuring a more coordinated and efficient response to any potential emergencies or events."

The program culminated in a ceremony recognizing the 37 graduates who successfully completed the Basic Incident Command System Level 1 training. The LGU expressed its appreciation to the program's resource speakers for their valuable contributions.

Dolores's successful BICS training program exemplifies its commitment to proactive disaster risk reduction and management. The newly acquired knowledge and skills of the graduates are expected to significantly improve the town's ability to respond effectively to various emergencies, ultimately ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
