LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), spearheaded a two-day Synergy Workshop on June 25-26, 2024, at MI Sevilla Resort in Brgy. Domoit, Lucena City. The workshop focused on enhancing the implementation of the Strengthening Institutions and Empowering Localities Against Disasters and Climate Change (SHIELD) program in the province.

The event brought together representatives from various provincial offices working collaboratively to ensure the safety and well-being of Quezon residents. Key discussions revolved around the outcomes of the SHIELD capacity assessment, potential bankable proposals, adjustments to the Provincial Work Plan, and strategies to expedite the Provincial Game Plan.

Participants engaged in a productive exchange of ideas and insights, collectively formulating measures to strengthen disaster preparedness and response capabilities. The PDRRMO, alongside its service partners, remains committed to developing comprehensive programs that will effectively mitigate the impact of potential risks and disasters in the province.

"This Synergy Workshop marks a significant step forward in our collective efforts to build a more resilient Quezon," said Dr. Melchor Avenilla, Quezon PDRRMO head. "Through enhanced collaboration and innovative approaches, we are confident in our ability to safeguard our communities and ensure a safer future for all Quezonians."

Avenilla added, "Our aim is to not only respond effectively to disasters but also to proactively mitigate risks and build a culture of preparedness among our communities. The SHIELD program provides us with a robust framework to achieve these goals."

He also emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral partnerships in achieving disaster resilience, stating, "We believe that collaboration is key to building a safer and more resilient Quezon. The SHIELD program provides a platform for us to work hand in hand with various stakeholders, ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive approach to disaster risk reduction and management."

The SHIELD program aims to empower local institutions and communities with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively address the challenges posed by disasters and climate change. By fostering a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction and management, Quezon Province is well on its way to becoming a model of resilience in the face of adversity.
